Lloyd Oliver
Lloyd Oliver was a Navajo silversmith born in Shiprock, New Mexico and in 1942 enlisted in the Marines to become one of the first of 29 Navajo Code Talkers. He was not only a Code Talker but a sniper in 1945. He returned to silversmithing after the war and developed a distinct style selling his work through Atkinson Trading Company. Oliver continued his work well into his 70s and, although he passed away in 2011, his grandson is following in his artistic footsteps, continuing his legacy.
