How to Care for your Jewelry
Congratulations on your new one of a kind handcrafted Native American heirloom. Please consider these detailed care instructions to ensure your piece is able to be loved for generations to come.
Avoid Moisture and Harsh Chemicals:
Water, perfumes, lotions, and cleaning products can damage the silver and stones. Remove jewelry before showering or swimming. Always pat jewelry dry with a soft cloth to avoid moisture buildup when your piece makes contact with water.
Gentle Cleaning:
Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe away oils and dirt after each use. A mixture of lukewarm water and a small amount of mild soap is effective to remove surface dirt and grime. For silver, a mild silver polish can be used to restore shine, but avoid harsh chemical cleaners. For turquoise, a soft cloth is usually sufficient; if needed, use a slightly damp cloth.
Storage:
Store jewelry in a cool, dry, and dark place, preferably in the custom John Henry Box or pouch you received. This will prevent scratching. Consider using anti-tarnish strips or pouches for long-term storage. Avoid placing jewelry in direct sunlight or damp areas, as these can damage the stones and materials over time.
Polishing:
Sterling silver jewelry can be polished with a silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish and restore shine. However, be cautious when polishing pieces with intentional oxidation, as excessive polishing can remove the desired effect. Avoid using any rough materials that may scratch the surface or alter the appearance of the stones and metal.
Inlay Jewelry:
Inlay jewelry is particularly delicate. Avoid moisture, extreme temperatures, and sudden impacts, as these can damage the delicate stone settings.
Turquoise:
Turquoise is porous and can be affected by oils, chemicals, and temperature changes. Avoid prolonged exposure to water and harsh chemicals. Clean with a soft cloth and store carefully.
